MODULE THREE – Safety and Security: Basic Concepts
IMPORTANT:
-
LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM
where a journalist knowingly does not abide by of
good, responsible journalism can also put you at risk. For example, in a conflict
situation if a journalist favours one group or the other instead of doing balanced,
impartial reporting, he or she will be identified with the group they favour. And
they will become party to a conflict and may be targeted for that.
LACK OF TRAINING can also put you at risk when reporting on conflict because
you are not prepared to deal with threatening conditions.
So will LACK OF KNOWLEDGE about the environment you are working in. Journalists
often do not take time to research the sensitivities on ground – social, political,
cultural, religious etc – and therefore wilfully put themselves in harm’s way.
